"Skills for the Baltic Wood industry - European Quality in Vocational Education and Training"

18.08.2020

The German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce is a partner in the "Skilled-Up" project, the main result of which is the creation and piloting of a Work-Based Learning (WBL) training course at EQF 5 level in the wood processing industry in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania.

The programme consists of 10 modules. Each Baltic country will develop 3 modules and the last module will be developed with the support of the German partner, Lehrinstitut Rosenheim e.V. The training is tested in all three Baltic countries with the participants since last autumn. Afterwards the training will be evaluated and case studies and recommendations will be written. These materials and module descriptions will be published on the project website with free access so that other interested parties who will implement such programme can use it. At the end of the project in September/October 2021 a final conference will be held to present the results.

The wood processing sector is one of the most important economic engines and export industries in the Baltic States with high growth potential, but it faces a shortage of workers with qualifications relevant to the current industry development - digital, green and other internationally recognised skills and qualifications.

In the next issue of the BalticBusinessQuarterly you can read more about the project in an interview with Artūrs Bukonts, Managing Director at LKUEA.

You can read more about the project on our website or at the official project website.
