Germany has decided its new government! For the next four years, Germany will be governed by a coalition of Social Democrats (SPD), the Green Party (Die Grünen) and Liberal Democrats (FDP).
The German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce warmly welcomes the new government and congratulates the designated new Chancellor Olaf Scholz!
We are all eager to see the developments under the new government, also in connection to the newly created Ministry of Construction and Housing. In line with the motto of the coalition agreement, "Dare more progress" (Mehr Fortschritt wagen), we are sure to see very interesting new developments in the fields of climate change and climate policy, as well as on social issues such as minimum wage and rising housing prices.
The inclusion of the immensely important climate resort in the powerful Ministry of Economy is a major and crucial step toward addressing the challenges of the 21st century and achieving the goal of reconciling prosperity and climate protection. Adding climate issues to another ministry while the Ministry of Environment also continues to exist, is a clear signal of the new government's priorities.
Under the new government, Germany will continue to be a strong ally of EU and the UN values and will stay true to its line on foreign policy and security policy issues.
In the week beginning December 6, the Bundestag is expected to elect Olaf Scholz as the new chancellor and the new government will begin its work.
